MS in Business Analytics, Mgmt., Programming

I am a very hard-working student and professional with a heightened sense of ethics and responsibility to both the company that I work for and the communities that we serve. I have always had a special passion for both Mathematics and Business, as a child, adolescent, and now a young adult.  The principal reason for this is the enormous influence that my father has had over my life and its direction. My father is a kind, loving, energetic man who has always taken great delight in supporting his family and giving his all to our future economic security. I could not have been more pleased and convinced that I was making the right decision in my freshman year of college when I declared myself a business major, building upon and putting to good use my first academic love, Mathematics.

I love Mathematics primarily because of its applications for daily life, making a positive impact on the economy, driving development, and making the world a better place to live for everyone. These past several years as a college student I have been completely devoted to my studies and professional opportunities, learning to become a leader, an innovator, and an entrepreneur. XXXX is my first choice for graduate study because of my profound admiration for the way that you incorporate the study of Math directly into the study of business. I feel strongly that I am an excellent candidate for your program because of my solid academic background in data analysis, statistics, enterprise finance, marketing, and other closely related areas. Perhaps most importantly, my skill and foundation in Mathematics is my greatest and most developed personal and professional asset.

Last year, I worked for a 3D printing company as an office assistant. This position helped me to understand the vast and profound importance of collaboration in the work place. Because our company is low on labor resources, I was responsible not only for all accounting tasks but also overseeing online shipment preparation, which required close collaboration with my co-workers as well as the other companies with which we collaborate. If one step of this process is delayed or fails, then the shipments are delayed or even canceled. Thus, I came to quickly appreciate the way in which teamwork and team spirit is so crucial to conducting business, especially online in real time.

In my current position as a Central Service Technician, I prepare all medical equipment for delivery to the appropriate department as rapidly as possible. Working in this fast-paced environment, I have been still further impressed with the central importance of collaboration for task efficiency.

I am also currently taking a Data Analysis class that includes R programming as applied to real world cases. All these projects require critical thinking of what methods can best estimate the model. This class has not only taught me about R programming, which is essential for business analytics, but also train me to be more creative and think outside the box to look for innovation.

Short Answers

Answer the questions below. For each question, please respond in no more than 250 characters (the equivalent of about 50 words maximum).

What is your immediate post-graduation professional goal? (Please include desired employment industries, functions and geographic region in your answer.)

Earning my MS in Business Analytics at UCSD will provide me with the optimal springboard for making important contributions to business analysis, preferably as part of California’s heath care industry.  I look forward to participating in innovation, searching for solutions to enhance the quality of patient care.

What are your long-term career goals?

My long-term career goal is to become a data analyst on the cutting-edge of the business world, playing diverse and important roles in the company that I serve. I look forward to making cultural as well as technical contributions that enable our company to make important contributions to our community.

Why do you need a Master of Science Business Analytics degree to achieve those goals at this point in your life?

Completing a thoroughgoing Master’s curriculum such as yours, with courses such as “Collecting and Analyzing Large Data” and “Business Intelligence Systems,” is an essential prerequisite for becoming a state-of-the-art business analyst. Your Master’s Program will provide me with a solid background for entering a competitive sector of the workforce.

Tell us about a recent accomplishment you had. ----- For example, how did you accomplish this? Who else was involved? What obstacles did you overcome? How did you positively influence a person, group, or organization as an employee, a member, or an outside constituent? What type of impact did this have on the organization? What did this experience teach you about collaboration, and how will it make you a better leader in your future roles?

I recently served as team leader for a group presentation, asking team members to pick subtopics that interested them to contribute to our group’s Power Point presentation, getting together to brainstorm and constructively critique each other’s work. This increased my confidence in my leadership skills, creativity, and organization.
