When I was a child in Morocco, a personal computer was considered a luxury. I spent a lot of my spare time at ‘cyber cafes’ using a computer for an hour or two and became totally fascinated with these mysterious machines. I wanted to know how this little box in front of me performed the miracle of moving information and thoughts instantly around the globe. I decided that I would find out and that is what I have spent my life to date doing. My initial fascination increases day by day and I have never regretted my decision to work in IT.

All of my adult academic and working life has been devoted to I.T. During that time, I have advanced from a ‘helpdesk’ role to Director of I.T. and have acquired a bachelor degree in Network and Communications Management with an impressive GPA.  I have treated each job I have had as the opportunity to add to my knowledge and skills and as a ‘stepping stone’ to the very top of the profession.  My goal now is to take a major step in my professional journey by joining an excellent MSIS program, excel within it and then to fill a senior management role. I intend, ultimately, to pursue a Ph.D. degree to enable me to conduct and supervise research and to teach.

I hold a bachelor degree in Network and Communication Management with a GPA of 3.51 and was included on the Dean’s List of graduates. I believe that this will provide an assurance that I am both an intelligent and diligent student with a genuine passion for my subject who has the academic potential to benefit from the MSIS program.

My work to date has provided exposure to IT applications in several different environments including aerospace, hospitality, NOC’s and education.  This breadth of experience has been extremely useful to me and I look forward to sharing the fruits of my experience with my class in the program.

My experience on a helpdesk gave me the opportunity to learn and apply basic communication skills and these have been honed as I have progressed into supervisory and management roles. My background has convinced me that among the most important characteristics of an effective manager are decisiveness and a readiness to lead by example. I consider management to be a fascinating art and I am keen to learn as much as possible about how to exercise it to maximum effect.

Although I have not yet had the opportunity to undertake research, I am very keen to do so.  I believe that the progress that I have made professionally has been the result of demonstrating the characteristics required of a good researcher. I am determined, patient, analytical and able to think ‘outside the box’. I am particularly interested in assisting with research into e-Government and Business Informatics.

I have carefully researched the programs available to me and have concluded that your own is the best fit to enable me to achieve my goals. I seek a challenging but supportive program in which I can apply the significant knowledge that I have gained in academic projects. I am attracted by the small class sizes and the concept of the ‘cohort’ to encourage effective collaboration and long term professional relationships. I am keen to be among students who share my passion and look forward to giving the benefit of my knowledge and skills to my classmates and benefitting from their experiences. I am aware of the work and interesting professional background of Dr. XXXX and I particularly look forward to working under her guidance.

I know that participation in the program while holding a demanding job will involve sacrifices and dedication. Much of my spare time is, anyway, devoted to learning about the most recent advances in the IT world and so I am convinced that I can take on the necessary workload and undertake to apply all my determination and enthusiasm for my subject not only to complete the program but to excel within it.

I have happily studied, worked and socialized with people from a wide variety of cultures and social backgrounds. I enjoy learning about other cultures and sharing knowledge of my own. I have enjoyed exposure to a variety of cultures in my extensive travels. I studied in Spain for a year and have visited several other countries including France, Italy, Brazil and Turkey. I speak Arabic, English, French and Spanish.

I am aware that there will be many well qualified applicants for the program. However I consider myself to be an excellent candidate. I firmly believe that I have the academic potential, relevant professional experience, determination, diligence and intelligence to profit from the program. I also have a genuine desire to share, and work closely, with the like minded professionals who will make up my cohort. I undertake wholehearted participation in the program if selected and hope very much for the opportunity to join it.
