For over a decade, I have maintained a conceptual continuity in my academic and professional careers, an unswerving commitment to the field of consulting and banking projects. I have reached a point, though, in my career where I feel I have exhausted every path of opportunity and challenge at my current academic level. Turning to XXXX Business School and graduate Project Management Program is more than a logical choice for my career, it is a natural choice given my myriad practical experiences in the field, sensibilities and business acumen.
Participating within the graduate Project Management program will enable me to increase my depth of understanding of such key areas of interest to myself, such as high impact project stakeholder management. Such exposure will prove invaluable to bringing my post-graduation goals of independent projects consultancy to fruition.
I bring with me to the Project Management program, not only proof of my ability to successfully complete a graduate-level program, but also a decade of professional experience, working in positions that increased in responsibility and the numbers of people I supervised. It was during this portion of my career when I solidified my professional interpersonal, time management, project management, and IT skills.
My project management experiences brought many challenges, both foreseen and unforeseen, a deadline-oriented working environment which forced me to learn to not only multitask, and apply sound time management skills, but also to think practically and on my feet. I credit my academic foundation in Commerce, Business Administration and Accountancy with developing my analytical thinking skills, skills that proved invaluable throughout my project management experiences. Being proactive, taking the initiative, confidently leading and motivating my support people through establishing positive business culture, I enjoyed a good level of success, bolstering my self-efficacy and confidence for my next career move: further development and education. More specifically, I always completed projects within budget, successfully and within management guidelines, without fail.
XXXX Business School stood out to me from the background noise of other schools, offering a breadth and autonomy of curriculum that others simply cannot match. Moreover, I bring with me to the school a worldview that is quite different from most, having been born, raised and educated in India and yet conducted my professional career in Saudi Arabia. I feel that these experiences have increased my cultural competency as well as my ability to communicate effectively with people of differing creeds, cultures and belief systems. This skill has served me well in my work and will translate effectively to the project management program, in which I anticipate a classroom, filled with experienced faculty and accomplished student body, and the opportunity to share my own analyses, test others, come to unexpected conclusions and learn that much more from the collective meeting of ambitious minds. I completely embrace the fact that there is more than one leadership method, that there is ample room for improvement in my own style and what better place to learn such lessons than in the classroom, where the consequences of “failure” do not translate into millions in lost revenue. It is in the classroom where our missteps can be turned into learning experiences, and in study time, we can reflect on our interactions, integrating them into our own distinctive path.
No other field ever has nor ever could bring me the same level of personal or professional satisfaction. There are countless opportunities in the field of project management and standing in the middle of it, one cannot see its edges. Through the XXXX Business School’s expert guidance and access to resources, I aim to make that field that much bigger.
